Journal Questions.

How often do you write in a paper journal? Is there a certain time of day or a certain place you prefer to write? Do you leave your journal at home or carry it with you? How many pages do you think you write per year? Do you have any other rituals surrounding writing in your journal?

Lovely questions.

I started to finally be committed to paper journaling about 10 years ago, and now I am on journal number 25-ish. I would not be the person I am without journaling. Period.

I try to be faithful every day but there are times of drought -- like with anything. :)

One of my most prized possessions is my Namiki sterling silver butterfly fountain pen. A good pen, literally, makes journaling easier. Literally.

I've journaled on and off my whole life. Mostly off. Eek. I buy a lot of journals with great intentions and don't get even half-way through. I think one of my problems is that I think a lot faster than I can write. I get frustrated when I can't get it all down quickly.

I'd like to start with the morning pages and see where it goes from there. I've also started carrying my journal in my bag, just to see if that helps me get things down throughout the day. I need to get better about doing it regularly because when I do, I do notice a big difference.

There is no time like the present!

i have journaled off and on my whole life too. i need to get back into it. i have done the same as you, bought many journals and don't get through them. i'll write and write and then put them down for months (ahem, years)at a time - boo. this needs to stop.

i have been contemplating the morning pages too. i think that they are something i need to get into.

would you consider morning pages to be journaling too, or should they be done separately?

I think Julia Cameron sees the Morning Pages as a way of clearing out your head so you can actually write the real stuff (whether that's a journal or something else) and as a way to just jump start the writing process.

I personally do see the morning pages as journaling because a lot of what I write is what I would write in a journal if I was disciplined about it.

I'm definitely a paper girl :-) I just LOVE finishing journals and starting a new one (almost done with my current!). I'd like to journal every morning, but these days it's some mornings, some afternoons, some evenings. All depends on my schedule. But i do notice that i am a happier, calmer person when i'm journaling. :-)
