Beach reads.

Anyone have any good suggestions for brain candy that I can read on the beach?

I am in desperate need of some new novels. I have a ton of non-fiction to read but I want something that's a little easier to digest while sinking my toes into cool sand. Examples of things I have loved in the past: The Time Traveler's Wife, Good in Bed, Bel Canto, My Sister's Keeper, The Glass Castle, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, The Devil Wears Prada, Middlesex, The Namesake.

I absolutely loved "Driving With Dead People" by Monica Holloway. Its not very uplifting...but I liked it a lot.

My top read this year so far is Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun. Deals with the Nigerian civil war, a subject I knew absolutely nothing about, but it's stunningly written.

I just picked up Eric Weiner's "The Geography of Bliss" and can't put it down! He travels the world trying to find out what makes people happy. It's really fascinating, but not too heavy.

Analiese--I actually picked that up a few weeks ago too! It's coming with my on my trip.

Jessica--Just got "Driving with Dead People" today based on your recommendation. It looks really good.

Thanks, everyone, for all of your other suggestions! I am definitely going to read them right after I finish those two. I'm SO happy to have two whole free months to read!

I really liked Victoria Hislop's two novels - "The Island" and "The Return", very easy beach reading (or rather, reading in bed while I had the flu! Ugh!). Anything by Kate Morton, Lisa Jewell or Isabel Wolff is great escapist reading too.

I also really like Patrick Gale. "Notes on a Exhibition" was wonderful.

The last thing I read on a beach was "Kafka on the Shore" - that too was great.
